Scottish Highlands Tour 2009

by tscott, posted 14/10/09 00:00:36   » Back on the Road

Scottish Highlands Tour 2009 Hey everyone,
I've been a bit slow getting this out but wanted everyone to know how great the Highland Tour went this summer. First of all, let me thank Mr. Rob Ellen (the man behind the tour) for his friendship and hard work. I've had the pleasure of knowing Rob since about 2005 when my first cd "Fabletown" came out. He has handled all of my PR work throughout the UK, Europe etc since then, including my second cd "Rarely Fall" in 2008. Thanks again Rob!
Ok now the tour. I hit Edinburgh airport on the 21st of July where I was met by Mr. Matt Morrow ( guitar player extrordinaire ). I have known Matt for a couple of years through Nessmp3 (Mondays with Matt and Rob's Medicine Show). Anyway, Matt had agreed to join me on tour and so we were off to his home town of Cumbernauld for rehearsal. We spent about eight hours in his kitchen playing, drinking tea and smoking cigs. Then it was off to his local pub the next day for rehearsal through a PA. It was very surreal to have just met and to have the songs sound as though we had been playing together for years. A comment we would continue to hear throughout the tour. I'm off for Inverness to meet up with Rob and begin the tour. First night in we head to "The MacKenzie House" to open for MIchael Weston King. What a great way to start off the tour. The MacKenzie house is the residence of Steve and Clancy Macdonald in Strathpeffer. It is an old infirmary that was be turned into a residence. It is also a stopping off point for musicians on tour with Rob who need a place to stay. Steve and Clancy were kind enough to let Matt and I base out of there when we were not staying with Rob or on the road. We were truly treated like family and Strathpeffer is so beautiful. We played at Sarsparilla's which is a great little throwback soda shop there in Strathpeffer. Then we were off for Ft William to open for Eliza Gilkyson at Roy Bridge Hall with a stop at Nevis Radio for an interview and a couple tunes. Ullapool with Cara Luft and Hugh McMillan, a little more radio with Rob. I guess I could go on and on as I was there for about 23 days. I'll condense it by naming The Riverside Pub (thanks Scott) at Conan Bridge, Aberdeen, Perth, Louisemouth and Inverness.
We finished off the tour at The Belladrum Festival on the 7th of Aug. Matt and I got in the night before and put on an impromptu set as we did sound check. Great show Saturday as we had Tom Mason and Gypsy Dave Smith join us for the last two songs.
I couldn't have asked or had a better time on my Highland tour. The country, people and venues still have me wishing I was there. In the meantime I will wait patiently (maybe not) to heading back next year.
To all involved I thank you and wish y'all well.
See ya soon.

Better order a shot before last call because Tim Scott’s second album, Rarely Fall is gonna touch places you forgot were tender. After the first guitar riff, there you are in his make-shift Austin studio, beer in hand listening to his stories as he scribbles lyrics on the back of a receipt. His voice soft and sad or gravelly and mad as hell while confessing things you thought only you went through.

Though Fabletown’s sense of adventure is still there Rarely Fall lays bare the dark, smoky intimate side of lost love, longing and jealousy. He sings of loves that failed, “silk will lose its softness as it unweaves” and the one he hopes will last, “Should I wake, with you beside me, in my arms/Come morning light/I will offer this simple prayer/In hopes this lonely man finally got it right.” Sound familiar? That’s because honesty like this is sometimes only seen in the mirror the morning after. But it’s here on 11 expertly crafted tracks that take you from a ship bound for WII to a kitchen floor conversation between two old friends. And “Suddenly a flood of stories flow when the levee breaks.”

Though Rarely Fall takes a candid look at past mistakes, it also acknowledges lessons learned and looks to the future. In the title song, Tim takes his place among those who have come before him—the ones who supported and guided him on his journey. As the tracks unfold, you can tell who they are—Dan Fogelberg, John Lennon, George Harrison and Warren Zevon.  The lyrics say it all, “So I spin another story/Like those before I still raise my pen…There’s a common thread between us/Though we often stumble, we rarely fall.” That common thread is the ability to take a handful of words, a few chords and a shitload of honesty to grab people right where they live. Tim’s got it down good.

If you can’t get enough of Tim live, Rarely Fall is the closest you’ll get outside of jumping in the truck and paying a cover charge. It’s just as raw and moody, but hey—you get the benefit of Erik Herbst’s genius mixing and engineering. Tim plays rhythm guitar and sings all lead and background vocals backed by drums, bass, keyboard, fiddle and the sad, sweet sound of the mandolin. It’s almost last call—better order that shot, get yourself a copy of Rarely Fall and a couple for your ex-lovers.

Greeting Everybody,
It's time to get back on the road Thurs to play @ one of my favorite venues, ( Hondo's) in Fredericksburg Tx. It's named for the man Hondo Crouch who established Luckenbach as a musical haven. The same Luckenbach as made famous by the Waylon & Willie song. Anyway, a liittle Texas history for y'all. Then I'm off for Nashville the 16th - 21st for the AMA conference. Really looking forward to the rest of the month and hope to see alot of old friends and meet some new.
All my best to everyone.
Tim
