More great music from Austin
It's been a lifetime since the last Jane Gillman solo album, but the long wait proves to be well worthwhile as this is a gem of an album.
From the opening plea for understanding about where a relationship stands (Madonna of the Trail) to the closing realisation song Spinning, her guitar based folk-rock sound combines with rich, insightful lyrics that deal with age-old topics in new and fresh ways. Jane’s vocals are warm and rich, the writing is brilliant and the production – a joint effort by the singer and drummer Merel Bregante is appropriately complimentary.
My Impatient Heart with its jangly guitar and irresistible hook is just one of the highlights. Then there's Angel of Dreams, a really moving acoustic ballad that is loaded with great hooks and lyrics. Some mountain dulcimer is in the background with swirling keyboards and haunting harmonies going on. Waiting For Elena is a melodic gem that immediately swirls around the head followed by the countryish Dream and Drive with pedal steel to the fore. A powerful collection of songs strengthened by the musical contribution of Rich Brotherton (guitars), Riley Osborne (keyboards) Glen Fukunaga (bass), Darcie Deavile (fiddle), Mitch Watkins (guitar), Gary Newcomb (pedal steel), to name a few.

...found a minute to sit down and reflect on the end of summer. A beautiful trip to the Scottish highlands in August. Collieston - favorite stop along the way, wonderful people, fun FUN show. Drew Nelson and Cousti among the great musicians I met along the way. Ended up at Newbold House, near Findhorn, a lovely retreat center/b and b for a writer's retreat. Nothing but big hearted folks and smiles along the way. Hope to be back soon...
