BELLADRUM HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR FOUR FESTIVAL OSCARS

by medicinemusic, posted 30/09/09 14:59:48

BELLADRUM HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR FOUR FESTIVAL OSCARS - VOTE FOR US NOW AND WIN TICKETS!

Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival has been nominated in four categories of the national UK Festival Awards 2009 : Family Festival Award, The Grass Roots Festival Award (thanks to your votes, Bella won this last year): Best Medium Sized Festival; and Best Toilets! In addition, Lau have been nominated for the Virtual Festivals Critics Choice Award for their performance at Bella. To vote for Bella and Lau, go to www.festivalawards.com and register your votes in as many categories as you like - though we'd recommend the FAMILY FESTIVAL AWARD as the one we'd really like to win this year. The deadline for voting us onto the shortlist is 14th October. Then a second round of public voting which is your chance to vote us into the winning position ends on 4th November. Winners are announced on 19th November.

By voting you could win a pair of tickets to any of the winning festivals in this year's awards!

BELLA NOMINATED FOR THE FAMILY FESTIVAL AWARD

Every year, there seem to be more and more children at festivals, with increasingly impressive areas and facilities for kids reflecting the rise. Games, workshops, kid zones and activities for youngsters all combine to make their weekend a memorable one - and often a much easier one for their mums and dads. Which festival was the most enjoyable for kids and parents this year? THIS HAS TO BE BELLA - SCOTLAND'S ONLY REAL FAMILY FESTIVAL!

...AND THE GRASS ROOTS FESTIVAL AWARD

Often the best small festivals spring from an organic labour of love and a long-time dream which has been shared by thousands more. These festivals should be celebrated, not just for the courage and vision shown by their organisers, but also because they never forget where they've come from, supporting their local communities and new music along the way whilst retaining an independent spirit and resisting commercial saturation. HELP US WIN THIS AGAIN!

...AND BEST MEDIUM SIZED FESTIVAL

Festivals nominated for this award generally started life much smaller, but have evolved upwards from their original roots due to their popularity and success in filling a growing niche.

With a unique identity, following, and intimacy, many outdoor music fans think middle-capacity festivals get the perfect blend of atmosphere and scale.

But which one did the business this year? VOTE FOR BELLA!

... AND BEST TOILET

Whether it’s the pongy portaloos, the lingering longdrops or the unpleasant urinals, all festival toilets tang, but some stink more than others. But which festival boasted the cleanest cans and the best ratio of toilets to person? THEY WERE CLEANER THAN EVER AT BELLA!

...AND LAU FOR THE VIRTUAL FESTIVALS CRITICS' CHOICE AWARD

Lau have been nominated for this award for their performance at Bella' 09. The award is designed to celebrate those special acts who added something a little extra to their festival show. It could be comedy, nostalgia, crowd interaction or just that 'secret ingredient' - basically something that sets them apart from other performers as a real crowd pleaser.

Sweaty Bella: Belladrum Mountain Bike Race

Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival is set to capitalise on its superb Highland setting with a mountain bike race for all ages organised by Fringe and potting shed sponsors Square Wheels Cycles of Strathpeffer. The two day festival of music and performing arts will offer ‘Sweaty Bella’ on Saturday 8th August, a race through the beautiful policy woodlands of Belladrum Estate which hosts the event.

Open only to festival ticket-holders, riders will encounter a mix of forest road, single track paths and wooden features. The course will be timed laps over three miles and will last about two hours. There will be a race for 10 to 14-year-olds and 15-year-olds upwards. Besides the two main races, a variety of other prizes will be on offer.

Eliza Gilkyson Trio http://www.elizagilkyson.com

Eliza played her first ever UK shows in the Highlands, so its fitting that she brings her Festival Combo to Scotland for the first time to open up the Tartan Heart Fringe for this exclusive Scottish Show.

Austin-based singer/songwriter Eliza Gilkyson grew up in Los Angeles, the daughter of successful songwriter Terry Gilkyson. Her rather musical upbringing included demos that Eliza recorded of her father's work, as well as other musical ventures. She moved to New Mexico in the late 1960s, where she began performing and touring regionally with the Ark Band.
She later moved to Europe to work with composer Andreas Vollenweider. Returning to the States in the late 1990s, Gilkyson began releasing a series of critically acclaimed solo albums. She also started her own label (Realiza Records) in 1999. A year later, she released an album on Red House Records, for whom she's recorded ever since.

In all, Gilkyson has released 14 CDs. She was inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. Her album Land of Milk and Honey was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Tim Scott takes his place among those who have come before him—the ones who supported and guided him on his journey.—Dan Fogelberg, John Lennon, George Harrison and Warren Zevon. The lyrics say it all, There’s a common thread between us though we often stumble, we rarely fall.” That common thread is the ability to take a handful of words, a few chords and a shitload of honesty to grab people right where they live.

"Belladrum is sometimes described as the "Glastonbury of the North", but it is much broader in its appeal. People from all social and class backgrounds are here and you quite literally see three generations of the same family all jumping to the same infectious rhythms. It is becoming a real focus of community cohesion and not a little pride among the thousands who gather here that they can stage something like this in the Highlands. The food is pretty damn good too". Ian MacWhirter The Herald

Medicine Music have been involved in promotion publicity and booking the Belladrum Festival from Year one.

Medicine Music book the roots acts across all stages and organise the potting shed stage and the belladrum fringe, and organise the radio support for the event.
